Iron Bowl 2023: Everything fans need to know about Alabama vs. Auburn

Iron Bowl 2023: Everything fans need to know about Alabama vs. Auburn

The Iron Bowl is back, and we are ready for all the chaos Jordan-Hare Stadium can (and will) deliver on Saturday.

Alabama has won the SEC West with a 10-1 record and are primed for a College Football Playoff run if they win their next two games.

But Auburn can play spoiler. After a disastrous loss last week, all will be forgiven if Hugh Freeze and the Tigers pull off the upset on the Plains.

CBS and SEC Network are in town, along with thousands of Tide and Tiger fans ready for another round of college football’s greatest rivalry.

Here’s what you can expect in Auburn this Saturday.

SEC NATION: 9 a.m.

TIGER WALK: 12:30 p.m.

GATES OPEN: 12:30 p.m.

EAGLE FLIGHT: 2:20 p.m.

KICKOFF: 2:39 p.m.

TV: CBS

VENUE: Jordan-Hare Stadium

THE GAME | PREDICTION

Talk about “Roll Tide,” Alabama is on a roll. Since losing to Texas during the second week of the season, Nick Saban’s team has found their footing behind starting quarterback Jalen Milroe, who has suddenly emerged at the edge of the Heisman conversation.

The Tide already clinched the SEC’s western division, so all that stands in their way of playing Georgia for a potential spot in the College Football Playoff is their in-state rival.

Auburn lost in humiliating fashion to New Mexico State at home last week, but their are bowl-bound and a win over Alabama would put a cherry on top of Hugh Freeze’s inaugural season as head coach.

The Tigers can move the ball, and their secondary should limit the Tide’s downfield opportunities. But Bama is peaking at the absolute perfect time, and few teams want to see them on the other side of the field right now.

That said, weird things happen inside Jordan-Hare. Bama were heavy favorites two years ago when it took a miraculous last-minute drive from eventual Heisman-winner Bryce Young to send the game to overtime where the Tide escaped with a win. So do not count out the Tigers just yet.

Prediction: Alabama 37, Auburn 20

TOOMER’S CORNER TREES

Auburn University announced in August that the pair of replacement live oaks at Toomer’s Corner, which were planted in February of 2017, are ready to roll, or rather to get rolled in celebratory toilet paper. “The rolling of Toomer’s Corner is one of the nation’s top sports traditions,” said Auburn President Christopher B. Roberts in a release. “In recent years, we continued our cherished tradition by rolling different trees, but I’m very excited that the Auburn Family will once again be able to roll our most prominent trees.” The oaks mark the second set of replacements for the original Auburn Oaks, which stood for more than 50 years before being lethally poisoned by herbicide in early 2011.
