Investigators identify man who died in Montgomery County jail

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency this morning identified a man who died Thursday night while in custody at the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

The inmate was identified as 40-year-old Mauryce Jackson. Jackson was pronounced dead at the jail around 10:39 p.m. Thursday, officials said.

Medical staff at the jail was called to the booking area about 10 p.m. on a report of an inmate experiencing a serious medical condition, according to sheriff’s officials. Montgomery Fire and Rescue Service also responded to the jail to render care. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

ALEA officials have not released further information and the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
