Inmate in Mobile jail since September given Narcan in cell this morning, dies
A 38-year-old inmate at the Mobile Metro Jail was found dead in his cell early Monday, according to a release from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.
Ernest James Little Jr. was found unresponsive by his cell mates just before 1:30 a.m. Monday. Corrections officers provided medical assistance and administered Narcan, an over-the-counter treatment for opioid overdose.
Little was ultimately transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The sheriff’s office said an autopsy and toxicology tests will be performed.
Little had a lengthy criminal record dating back to at least 2006, starting with traffic violations before graduating to possessing stolen property, possession of illegal drugs, drug trafficking and robbery.
He had been in Mobile Metro since last September, charged with methamphetamine trafficking, distribution of a controlled substance, robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
