Injury updates on Wrightsell, Pringle before Elite Eight
Alabama basketball pulled off an upset win over North Carolina in the Sweet 16 without one of its top offensive threats. Latrell Wrightsell Jr. missed the game with a head injury, his second such absence this season.
On Friday, before the Crimson Tide’s Saturday matchup with Clemson in the Elite Eight, UA head coach Nate Oats said Wrightsell’s status remains up in the air.
“Wrightsell continues to be evaluated by the doctor and trainer,” Oats said. “He’s day to day.”
Wrightsell suffered the injury in the Crimson Tide’s second-round matchup with Grand Canyon. Oats had also said he was day-to-day before the North Carolina game, but the guard was ruled out shortly before tip.
Another Alabama player who was banged up against North Carolina was Nick Pringle. The forward has been dealing with a foot injury, and exited the game briefly after aggravating it.
“He’s had a heel bruise he’s been fighting through the year and that fired up,” Oats said. “He’s getting treatment all day. Hopefully we can get him back.”
Pringle had a walking boot on his left foot when entering Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Friday. He spoke to reporters and said he planned on playing on Saturday’s matchup.
“It’s been bothering me for a good minute, but I’m a fighter,” Pringle said. “I don’t let a knick-knack injury stop me from being who I am or affect the team in general, so I’ve just been dealing with it and doing a lot of treatment.”
Alabama faces Clemson at 7:49 p.m. CT Saturday in Los Angeles.
