Ingrid Andress says she was drunk during national anthem performance, apologizes to MLB fans

Country singer Ingrid Andress posted a statement to social media Tuesday, apologizing for her Monday performance of the national anthem at the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby at the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Andress, 32, said she was drunk and will be getting help at a facility.

“That was not me last night,” she wrote. “I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition.

“I’ll let y’all know how rehab is. I hear it is super fun.”

On Monday night, the four-time Grammy nominee sang an a cappella version of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Andress is a country singer songwriter, who first broke through with her 2019 single “More Hearts Than Mine” which hit the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at 30.

She collaborated with Sam Hunt on “Wishful Drinking,” which also hit the Hot 100.

The 32-year-old has earned four Grammy nominations, including for Best New Artist and Best Country Song in 2021. She has toured as a solo act with Stevie Nicks and alongside other country stars such as Keith Urban, Dan + Shay and Tim McGraw. Andress has released two albums in her career, most recently “Good Person” in 2022.

In addition, her father, Brad Andress, was a major-league strength and conditioning coach for nearly two decades, including stints with the Detroit Tigers and Colorado Rockies.

Country singer and Texas native Cody Johnson will perform the national anthem before the All-Star Game on Tuesday.
