Indicted Hanceville mayor thanks city for ‘unbelievable amount of support’

It was business as usual during the Hanceville City Council meeting Thursday evening in spite events which unfolded earlier in the week involving mayor Kenneth Nail.

The four-term mayor was booked into the Cullman County Detention Center on Tuesday after receiving a Grand Jury indictment of 15 felony counts of using his office for personal gain.

Nail only briefly addressed the pending charges Thursday during the city’s work session, and he did so to express his gratitude for the amount of community support he said he has received during the last several days.

“Everybody knows what happened this week. I just want to say, I appreciate the prayers, I appreciate the confidence that folks have put in me, the calls and the cards. At this time, that’s about all I can say, but I did want to say I appreciated it. It’s just been an unbelievable amount of support that I’ve gotten,” Nail said.
