In-state 3-star OL Mal Waldrep commits to Alabama football

Another day, another offensive line commitment for Alabama football. Kalen DeBoer and company scored an in-state recruiting win when Mal Waldrep, offensive tackle from Central-Phenix City, the state’s reigning 7A state champions, announced his intentions on Tuesday.

The three-star prospect, listed as the No. 40 offensive tackle in the class of 2025 by the 247Sports composite rankings, announced the move on his social media. He chose the Crimson Tide over a final four that included Clemson, Florida and Tennessee.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna praised Waldrep’s versatility in his assessment.

“A nimble mover that shows the ability to work up to the second level and play in space, Waldrep’s size and skillset indicate the potential flexibility to transition inside, offering valuable contributions as a guard or even potentially at the center position,” Petagna wrote in his scouting report. “If deployed as an offensive tackle in college games, he’s likely to excel on the right side. Waldrep projects as a versatile starter at the next level, capable of adding value and providing depth at multiple positions.”

Waldrep became the Crimson Tide’s second offensive line commitment of the 2025 class. He joined four-star IOL prospect Michael Carroll, who committed on Monday.

He’s an Alabama legacy, with his father, also named Mal Waldrep, playing for UA in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound younger Waldrep became the Tide’s 14th commitment in the class of 2025.
