Improving public safety starts with investing in Mobile’s youth, councilor says

Cory Penn has represented District 1 on the Mobile City Council since 2021, replacing veteran councilmember Fred Richardson. A native of Mobile, Penn graduated from LeFlore High School before attending Stillman College in Tuscaloosa. Since his time at Stillman, he has worked in education and currently works as a student success coach at Bishop State Community College.

Penn has made public safety a priority in his time on the council. He is the sponsor of an ordinance that would ban no-knock and pre-dawn warrants in Mobile, which the council has tabled for 45 days. Here, he discusses his public safety priorities and why it’s important to invest in Mobile’s youth.
