Outdoors icons: In just a little more than a month, Alabama has lost a trio of outdoors icons. They are names that casual hunters and fishermen may have heard of, but not truly understood the role they played in the pursuits they love, said longtime outdoors columnist Michael C. Bolton. Water Works spending: After years of ranking among the worst public utilities in the nation when it comes to customer satisfaction ratings, the Birmingham Water Works board voted to spend thousands of dollars to join the organization that routinely issues them failing grades. Long-gone lower Alabama eats: A walk down memory lane had food writer David Holloway longing for these long-gone lower Alabama restaurants.
