Iconic rock star, who worked with James Brown and appeared in ‘Grease,’ dead at 75
Scott Simon, the pianist of the rock group Sha Na Na, has died. He was 75.
Billboard.com reports that daughter, Nina Simon, said he had been battling sinus cancer.
Known as “Screamin’” Scott, Simon, per the report, was a member of Sha Na Na from 1970 until the band stopped touring in 2022. Simon and Sha Na Na also starred in the 1978 hit movie “Grease” as “Johnny Casino and the Gamblers.” The group appeared in the high school dance scenes.
Simon co-wrote “Sandy,” which was performed by John Travolta in the film. The band began “The Sha Na Na Show” in 1977, and filmed 30-minute episodes with star guests the likes of James Brown and Chuck Berry.
