Hurricane Idalia path tracker: When will it hit Florida?

Hurricane Idalia is on a path for Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Idalia was a Category 1 hruricane on Tuesday and is expected to strengthen to a Category 3 storm with winds up to 120 mph in the next 24 hours, according to the National Hurricane Center.

When will Idalia make landfall? The hurricane center said on the current forecast track Idalia will make landfall somewhere in Florida’s Big Bend region on Wednesday morning.

Idalia was moving slowly on Monday but has since picked up its pace as of Tuesday morning and will continue to track northward at a faster pace through landfall on Wednesday.

As of the last forecast update, at 7 a.m. CDT Tuesday, the center of Hurricane Idalia was located about 320 miles south-southwest of Tampa and was moving north at 14 mph.

Idalia’s winds increased to 80 mph, making it a Category 1 hurricane. The hurricane center warned that rapid intensification will be possible today over the record-warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and Idalia could be at Category 3 strength (winds starting at 111 mph) by the end of today.

The hurricane center said in that on the official forecast track that the center of Idalia will move over the eastern Gulf of Mexico today, reach the Gulf coast of Florida on Wednesday, and move close to the Carolina coastline on Thursday.
