If you like walking through the popular Galaxy of Lights holiday display at the Huntsville Botanical Garden, you’re going to have more opportunities than ever.

The garden announced Wednesday that it will almost double the number of available walking nights through the 1½-mile display for the upcoming holiday season. In the announcement, the garden said the change is “in response to their growing popularity and based on feedback from guests and the community.”

The number of walking nights will increase from 17 last year to 31 this year.

“For several years now, we have seen a growing demand for walking experiences at Galaxy of Lights,” Rebecca Turk, director of learning and public engagement at the garden, said in the announcement. “In response to that feedback, we are excited to be offering even more Walking Nights, and we are thrilled at the positive response we have received so far. There really is something special about walking among the lights at Galaxy!”

The Galaxy of Lights – a nationally renowned attraction in its 27th season – will open Nov. 11 and continue through Jan. 1. The display will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. The Galaxy of Lights has been recognized nationally in the USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest for Best Botanical Garden Holiday Lights, finishing second in online voting in 2020 and seventh in 2021.

Drive-thru nights will be available Dec. 1-16 and dog walking nights will be each Monday and Tuesday during walking nights (Nov. 14-15 and Nov. 21-22; Dec. 19-20 and Dec. 26-27). The Galaxy of Lights 5K race and 3K fun run will take place Nov. 28-29. Walking night hours are 5:15 to 8:30 while drive-thru nights are 5:30 to 9.

Tickets to Galaxy of Lights are on sale at the Garden front desk during regular business hours or online at hsvbg.org/galaxy. Walking night tickets should be purchased in advance with a designated time to arrive. Driving night tickets can be purchased in advance or upon arrival.
