Neither Austin, Texas nor Athens, Georgia became music cities because they started calling themselves that. Colorful, fertile local scenes grew there organically, birthing artists whose music eventually moved millions of people far beyond its place of origin.

The last five years, City of Huntsville’s energy and initiatives to elevate music here are admirable and progressive. But reputations are earned. They’re not the result of branding.
