Huntsvilleâs $400 million Mill Creek revitalization: Hereâs how you can weigh in
Huntsville residents will get another chance to learn about the city’s and the Huntsville Housing Authority’s plan to revitalize a distressed neighborhood near the downtown core.
A neighborhood and residents’ meeting is scheduled Wednesday about the proposed redevelopment of Butler Terrace and Johnson Towers, referred to as the Mill Creek project.
The meeting will be 6-7:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, 125 Earl St. SW, Huntsville. Attendees can view renderings, provide input and hear short presentations.
This will be the last scheduled public meeting before the submission of a Choice Neighborhoods Implementation grant that could provide up to $50 million in federal funding for the project. The grant deadline is in February 2024.
The project is expected to cost about $400 million, according to city leaders. Private investment will also be needed to see the revitalization become reality. Funds from the grant would be used for neighborhood infrastructure, housing, employment opportunities, health and education and private investment.
