Huntsville’s Bridge Street Town Centre modifies teen curfew after shooting

Huntsville’s Bridge Street Town Centre has modified its youth escort policy, calling for all youth under the age of 17 to be accompanied by an adult after 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

In a statement, Marketing Manager Haley Buie said this isn’t a new policy, but a revision of the existing one, which originally called for teens under the age of 18 to require an adult over the age of 21 after 8 p.m. daily.

After stores close, no one will be permitted to loiter in large groups in the common areas. The property is asking guests to carry a photo ID with proof of age. Anyone without ID will be asked to leave.

Those refusing to leave may be banned from the property for up to six months and prosecuted for trespassing, according to the code of conduct policy.

The policy change comes after a shooting incident in July.

An unnamed juvenile was charged with first degree assault after firing a gun on the Huntsville shopping mall’s property, injuring two people.

According to police, an argument between a group of juveniles escalated and a gun was fired once at the Bridge Street Town Centre. Law enforcement responded to the scene at 7:22 p.m July 29.

Two people were injured and taken to the hospital, both with “non-life-threatening” injuries, according to police.
