Huntsville Times Player of the Week: Standout has monster game

It’s crunch time in the Alabama High School Athletic Association basketball season as teams face area opponents battling for seeding for the fast-approaching tournaments. This week’s top performer from the Huntsville/Tennessee Valley area had a huge game in an area regular-season title clinching victory.

Here are the top 5 Player of the Week performers with statistics through Jan. 13, based on information provided by coaches or scorekeepers:

5. Adily Alberti, Danville. The 5-foot-9 sophomore scored 17 points and claimed 8 rebounds as the Hawks beat Colbert Heights 41-34 on Friday. Alberti, the daughter of coach and Danville alum Mallory Alberti, is scoring 14 points a game and averaging 7 rebounds per outing. The win gave Danville a 5-2 record in Class 3A, Area 15.

4. Jordan Johnson, Austin. The 6-2 senior guard scored 23 points in a 79-55 Class 7A, Area 8 win at Florence. Austin improved to 19-4 and is ranked third in the Alabama Sports Writers Association poll. The Black Bears will play at area foe James Clemens on Friday.

3. Rhyan Holloway, St. John Paul II. A 5-8 sophomore, Holloway scored 17 points in a 49-47 Class 4A, Area 15 win at West Limestone on Friday. She also had 8 rebounds in the win. The Falcons travel to Class 4A, Area 15 foe Randolph on Friday.
