The top-ranked Class 6A Hazel Green girls closed out their regular season with a dominating win over Class 7A No. 3 Hoover on Tuesday night, catapulting past season-long Huntsville Times Power 5 leader Bob Jones.

The Patriots, who have won 16 consecutive games, did nothing to lose their spot, but Hazel Green did avenge its lone in-state loss of the season with a 53-32 rout and had defeated Bob Jones twice (42-37 and 49-45) early this season.

Hazel Green has won eight in a row and will host the Area 16 tournament beginning Friday with a game against Mae Jemison.
