Huntsville Times Boys Athlete of the Year was star of state tourney

Braden Booth of Bob Jones High School is The Huntsville Times Boys Athlete of the Year, another in a long line of honors the Mississippi State signee has earned after the 2024 baseball season.

To start, the pitcher/third baseman became the first Bob Jones player to capture the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s highest honor of Mr. Baseball. He was also the first Patriot to be the ASWA’s Player of the Year and the first to be named Pitcher of the Year. Booth was both a first-team All-State pick and a member of the 10-player Super All-State squad. Earlier, he was selected as The Huntsville Times Terrific 22 Baseball Player of the Year.

Booth was named Alabama’s player of the year by national websites Prep Baseball and MaxPreps – where he was the only player from the state to be named to the All-American first team (teammate junior Zack Johnson made the second team).

The 18-year-old was also selected as the Gatorade Alabama Baseball Player of the Year. Booth donated the $1,000 Gatorade grant that comes with the award to the Miracle League of Madison. The money will be put toward the Miracle League’s goal of building an all-inclusive field and complex at Palmer Park in order to “provide opportunities for children with disabilities to play baseball,” according to the city’s website.
