Huntsville shelter full: Animal Services waives fees
Huntsville’s animal shelter is full again.
To alleviate overcrowding of animals, Huntsville Animal Services is waiving adoption fees through the end of January, with the exception of a few animals. According to a news release, the kennels are full of pets of every size.
Animal Services Director Dr. Karen Sheppard said the shelter has experienced a jump in intakes, including two recent litters of puppies.
“The need to rehome these animals is urgent because we’re out of room,” she said. “The fact we’re so overcrowded illustrates why it’s so critical to spay and neuter pets to reduce the homeless pet population.”
Animal Services made a push for adoptions in the closing months of 2022. It helped raise the release rate to nearly 92%. Sheppard told The Lede the shelter’s goal was a 100% release rate.
