The Huntsville city council allocated $19.5 million for street improvements across the Rocket City in its 2023 fiscal budget – the largest single-year earmark for roadwork in the city — and that investment is continuing to pay off.

The council is expected to approve at Thursday’s meeting almost $5.1 million to low bidder Wiregrass Construction Company for resurfacing 51 residential streets. The work is to be completed in less than 10 months from the company receiving the notice to proceed.

With an affirmative vote, the council will have approved funding for 159 streets this fiscal year. In November, the council signed off on resurfacing 108 residential streets.
