Huntsville police officer Albert Morin returns to duty after shooting

A Huntsville police officer who was seriously wounded in a March shooting that claimed the life of a colleague returned to work today.

Officer Albert Morin was on light duty Monday. In an announcement, Huntsville police said Morin has “made great strides in his recovery, and we’re happy to have him back.”

“Thank you to the community and my coworkers for the outpouring of support,” Morin said in a statement. “I’ve read through every card and letter you’ve sent during my recovery. I remain grateful for all the support my family and I have received.”

Morin, 34, was wounded along with Officer Garrett Crumby, 36, on March 28 at an apartment complex on the 4600 block of Governors House Drive. Crumby, who received 10 wounds in the shooting, died later.

A woman at the scene, Arionne Douglas, received non-life threatening wounds.

Morin was released from the hospital on April 14.

Juan Robert Laws, 24, was arrested at the scene and faces the charge of capital murder of a law enforcement officer. Douglas was identified as Laws’ girlfriend and called 911 to the scene.

Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty.
