Huntsville Planning Commission approves more homes in Limestone County part of city
More home construction is on the way in the Huntsville part of Limestone County.
The Huntsville Planning Commission cleared the way for construction in the massive Greenbrier Preserve development south of Interstate 565. It also granted preliminary approval for lots in the Creekside subdivision north of I 565.
More than 1,100 homes are proposed for Greenbrier Preserve down the road from major employers such as Mazda Toyota Manufacturing. Polaris and the Amazon Fulfillment Center.
The Commission granted final approval for 23 lots for the second phase of the Wheeler Lake subdivision in Greenbrier Preserve south of Swancott Road and west of Rabbit Lane.
It had already approved 44 lots in the first phase. That’s in addition to 89 lots already under construction in Greenbrier Preserve South, 40 lots granted final approval in phase one of the Sweetwater Preserve in Greenbrier Preserve and 26 lots granted final approval in Greenbrier Estates in Greenbrier Preserve, according to an update by City Council President John Meredith.
That pushes the total to 222 homes either under construction or given final approval in the development. Greenbrier Preserve, LLC, is the developer, with 2 The Point, Inc., as the engineer.
Developers are planning homes for different levels of income. The development is viewed as a potential home for workers at nearby manufacturers.
According to a sign in the development, DR Horton is the homebuilder.

In addition, the Commission granted preliminary approval for 92 lots in phase six of the Creekside subdivision west of Sanderson Road and south of Nick Davis Road. According to Meredith’s update, that’s in addition to 438 homes in phase four of the subdivision under construction.
Residents have voiced concerns about the increase in traffic more homes in the subdivision would bring. It is across the road from Creekside Elementary – a Limestone County school.
Children in the subdivision would be slated to attend Providence Elementary, which is 12 miles away, while a Huntsville City k-through 8 school is being built.
The Commission also granted final approval for 54 lots for Creekside Commons, which is also east of Sanderson Road and south of Nick Davis Road.
Between 2,500 and 4,000 homes are planned for almost 400 acres near the southeast corner of the I 65-565 interchange, but that has yet come before the Planning Commission.
