Huntsville police have charged a man in connection with the shooting death of a four-year-old Sunday.

The department’s Major Crimes Unit this afternoon announced it had arrested Nickarious D Shun MCconnico, 20, on charges of criminally negligent homicide.

According to police, officers responded in a death investigation April 28 at about 7:30 a.m. at an apartment complex at 196 Jeff Road.

MCconnico was an overnight guest at the home, according to investigators.

Police say he left a loaded firearm on a coffee table upon going sleep.

Statements during the investigation and crime scene evidence at the scene led police to determine the juvenile, identified by family members at Kaiden D. Everson, picked up the firearm and fired it.

Everson died from the gunshot.

The arrest came after evidence was presented to a Madison County Grand Jury, police said.

The family of Kaiden Everson has established a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral and other expenses.
