Huntsville juvenile charged with assault after Bridge Street mall shooting
An unnamed juvenile is charged with first-degree assault after firing a gun Saturday night at a Huntsville shopping mall and injuring two people.
According to police, an argument between a group of juveniles escalated and a gun was fired once at the Bridge Street Town Centre. Law enforcement responded to the scene at 7:22 p.m.
Two people were injured and taken to the hospital. They both had “non-life-threatening” injuries, said Huntsville Police Department spokesperson Sydney Martin.
Assault in the first degree is the most severe kind of assault; a conviction can carry between two and 20 years in prison, per Alabama code.
Police will transport the juvenile who is being charged to the Neaves Davis Center, a juvenile detention center in Huntsville, Martin said.
“No further information is available due to the age of the individuals,” Martin said in an email.
