Huntsville company selected to support $587 million Navy contract
Huntsville’s CFD Research will provide technology to the U.S. Navy as part of a $587.4 million contract.
The company announced it has been awarded a contract by L3Harris Technologies.
The contract will help provide airborne attack capabilities to disrupt enemy air defense and ground communication systems in the development of the Next Generation Jammer – Low Band.
The jammer system will use the latest software and active electronically scanned array technologies to counter adversary systems in the low-frequency electromagnetic spectrum.
The technology will augment and ultimately replace the legacy ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System on the EA-18G Growler aircraft.
According to the company, CFD Research will provide ram air turbine power generation capabilities as part of L3Harris Technologies’ delivery of operational prototype pods to U.S. Naval Air Systems Command.
Those pods will undergo fleet assessment and testing over the next five years.
“CFD Research is excited for the opportunity to be part of this team supporting L3Harris and the Navy on bringing this technology to the warfighter,” CFD Research CEO Sameer Singhal said in a statement.
Founded in 1987, CFD Research is based in Huntsville and has prototyping test and evaluation facilities in Hollywood, as well as offices in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Dayton, Ohio. It has delivered in the aerospace, defense, biomedical, life sciences, intelligence and other industries.
