Huntsville city employee allegedly embezzled more than $73,000 from youth sports program

An Owens Cross Roads woman has been arrested for allegedly embezzling money over a two-year period from the Huntsville Eastern League.

According to court documents, Heather Ann Spier, 51, was arrested March 1.

She has been charged with first degree theft of property.

Documents allege that Spier, from September 2022 through this February, stole $73,225 from the Huntsville Eastern League, a combined youth league overseeing football, basketball, cheerleading, soccer and other sports.

WAAY is reporting Spier is a landscape management employee for the City of Huntsville. According to a city official, her arrest is not related to her job duties.
