Huntsville area home prices have risen 70% in last 5 years. Here’s where they’ve risen the most

Home prices have stabilized over the past year in the Huntsville area.

But that has not been the case in years previous. Home prices in Madison, Morgan and Limestone counties have risen about 70% in the last five years, according to data compiled by Stacker.com for the Huntsville and Decatur metro areas.

Stacker compiled a list of cities with the fastest-growing home prices in the Huntsville and Decatur metro areas using data from Zillow. Cities are ranked by their one-year price change as of July 2023.

Bennie Waller, a William Cary Hulsey faculty fellow with the Culverhouse College of Business at The University of Alabama, speculates prices may have stabilized because buyers are engaging only when they are able to find a “good deal.”

But prices are rising at a faster pace outside of Madison County, just across the river in Morgan County.

“The Decatur-Morgan County market is up as buyers flock to more affordable counties,” Realtor Matt Curtis said in an interview earlier this month with the Lede.
