On the night of Nov. 29 while shrimping in Pelican Bay Hunter went missing along with his father, Michael Slezak, and family friend Sam Wooley.
Officials have said a tragic accident occurred with the boat. The bodies of the two adults were recovered by the U.S. Coast Guard on Nov. 30.
Michael was a baseball coach at Semmes Middle School and Wooley was a military veteran.
Megan Slezak, Hunter‘s mother, posted on Facebook that the last two weeks were agonizing but is grateful for all the support she and her family has received.
“These past two weeks have been an overwhelming nightmare, but I have also been overwhelmed with the support of friends, family and community,” Megan said.
“Thank you to the thousands of people who have shown their support in so many different ways. Thank you for the prayers, messages, calls, meals, flowers, gifts, monetary donations, those who organized and attended the candlelight vigils and funeral services, and everyone who tirelessly searched for my son by land, sea and air and those who provided resources to those searching. I wouldn’t have been able to handle these weeks without everyone. Thank you!!”
A GoFundMe that was started to support Megan currently has raised over $91,000.
