Hunter finds human skull, jawbone in Talladega National Forest
An investigation is underway after a hunter human remains in the Talladega National Forest.
The discovery was made Monday evening in a secluded wooded area near the 193 mile marker, said Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade.
The sheriff said the hunter found a skull and a jawbone.
Investigators with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Center for Applied Forensics are conducting the probe.
Wade said the identity of the remains is unknown. The bones are being sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for further examination.
The sheriff called in the probe “comprehensive and sensitive.”
“We understand the gravity of this discovery and its impact on the community and the affected families,’’ he said. “Our investigators are working closely with the experts at CFAF and DFS to ensure that all possible measures are taken to identify the remains and provide answers.”
