Human remains found in woods in Birmingham’s Red Mountain area
An investigation is underway after skeletal remains were found Tuesday in Birmingham’s Red Mountain area.
The discovery was made about 11:30 a.m. by someone walking through woods.
Birmingham police detectives and the department’s Crime Scene Unit arrived at the scene shortly after 1 p.m., The Jefferson County Coroner’s arrived abou1:30 p.m.
Investigators are entering the scene through gated private property on Henrietta Road near 21st Avenue South and Woodcrest Road. The remains are reported to be deep into the woods.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said the remains have been there too long to immediately determine the cause and manner of death.
