Human remains found in trunk of burned vehicle in Birmingham now identified as 29-year-old man
Human remains were found inside the trunk of a burned vehicle at a vacant house in west Birmingham one month ago today have now been identified.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Byron Da’Juan Lumpkin. He was 29 and lived in Birmingham. He was identified by DNA comparison.
The discovery was made at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, June 8, in the 300 block of Barbee Street, authorities announced Monday.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene on a report of a house fire.
Once they extinguished the blaze, said Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, they found Lumpkin’s remains in the trunk of a burned vehicle in the carport.
Lumpkin was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:46 a.m. The cause of death was gunshot wound injuries with smoke and soot inhalation, Yates said.
No arrests have been announced.
