Hugh Freeze on Auburn: ‘We’re bad on third downs’
Auburn coach Hugh Freeze wasn’t so worried about the 7-7 score against Vanderbilt on Saturday as much as he was with another number: Zero.
As in 0 of 7 on third-down conversions for the Tigers.
“We’re bad on third down,” he told SEC Network on Saturday. “We have to figure it out. Pretty good on fourth down, but we got to certainly improve the third down.”
To his point, Auburn was 2 of 3 on fourth-down conversions in the first half but scoring for both teams was hard to find.
Auburn rolled up 214 yards but only managed one touchdown, a 30-yard touchdown from Payton Thorne to Rivaldo Fairweather in the second quarter. The Tigers defense held the Commodores to just 132 yards of offense.
“Proud of our kids,” Freeze said. “They are fighting against a good football team. We have a chance to win a football game against a top-25 opponent . That’s what we plan to do.”
