Hugh Freeze gives injury updates ahead of Auburn’s first practice
Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze took to the podium Thursday morning to preview his team before the start of fall camp.
The Tigers go into camp with a mostly healthy team, but Freeze gave an update on who they don’t expect to have to start camp.
Kicker Alex McPherson is still not cleared to play, battling a gastrointestinal illness. Freeze said McPherson is “getting better,” but not yet cleared to return.
McPherson has been Auburn’s starting kicker last season and made all 13 of his field goal attempts.
The other update came on the offensive line, as redshirt freshman tackle Tyler Johnson will miss the first two practices with a hamstring injury, according to Freeze.
“He’s really close to being able to be back,” Freeze said during his pre-practice news conference.
Johnson played in three games last season, but Freeze mentioned him during SEC Media Days when talking about options at left tackle.
The only other major injury for Auburn is defensive back Tyler Scott, who suffered an ACL injury during summer workouts and is out for the season, Freeze confirmed in early July.
