How’s Keon Keeley progressing? Here’s what Alabama coaches, players said

Alabama football has an intriguing player developing on the defensive line in Keon Keeley.

He was a five-star prospect from Tampa in the 2023 recruiting class as an outside linebacker. Then, Keeley didn’t play in 2023, taking a redshirt. Last season, the Crimson Tide staff moved Keeley from outside linebacker to defensive line.

He only saw time in five games as a reserve, though. Now, could 2025 be his breakout year?

There’s a long way to go until the season starts. Alabama finished its third spring practice Friday. But Keeley has elicited positive reviews so far.

“Keon Keeley is doing some really good things right now” Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack said. “I’m excited about that unit.”

Keeley is one of a handful of players at the Bandit defensive end position along with LT Overton, Kelby Collins and Jordan Renaud.

Overton, who figures to start at the position, was asked how Keeley’s progressing.

“Well,” Overton answered. “Out of my three years playing college football, I haven’t seen a guy like Keon be able to keep making jumps year by year. He’s got a great mindset.”

Alabama will continue spring practice through Saturday, April 12, which will be A-Day.
