The NHL playoffs continue tonight with four different game fives happening on two different networks. Fans can watch the action from all four games for free by utilizing the free trials offered by DirecTV Stream. Purchasing an affordable Sling subscription is an alternative to the free trials, and Sling is currently offering a 50% discount for the first month of service. Both services will allow fans to watch other sports tonight, including the NBA playoffs.

(D2) Boston Bruins vs (D3) Toronto Maple Leafs

The Boston Bruins take on the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight for game 5 of their series at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN. The Bruins are currently holding a 3-1 lead and are looking to close out the series tonight in Boston. The Maple Leafs were able to steal game 2 in Boston to even the series 1-1 last week, but they were unable to defend their home ice the past two games. In game 4, the Maple Leafs were dominated across the board, as they were down 3-0 in the third period before ultimately losing 3-1. The Bruins have outscored the Maple Leafs 14-7 during the first four games of this series, so they have been dominant on offense and defense thus far.

(D2) Winnipeg Jets vs (D3) Colorado Avalanche

The Winnipeg Jets face off against the Colorado Avalanche tonight at 8:30 p.m. CT on ESPN for the fifth game in their first round series. The Avalanche are looking to close out the series and complete the upset as the lower seed, as they currently hold a 3-1 series lead. The Avalanche have been an offensive powerhouse this postseason. They are averaging 5.5 goals per game in this series, which is the most out of all the playoff teams. Despite losing the first game 7-6, the Avalanche have bounced back to win three in a row over the Jets. Game 5 will be back in Winnipeg, as the Jets try to keep their season alive and seize back some momentum. Since the offensive battle in game one, the Avalanche have held the Jets to five goals over the past three games. So, the Jets have an uphill battle to knock off the scorching Avalanche team tonight.

(D2) Carolina Hurricanes vs (D3) New York Islanders

The Carolina Hurricanes play against the New York Islanders tonight at 6:30 p.m. CT on TBS, which will be another game 5 close out game in tonight’s NHL playoff action. The Hurricanes have a 3-1 series lead heading into game 5 tonight. The series has been competitive, as the past two matchups have been decided by one goal each. After losing game 3 to go down 3-0 in the series, the Islanders pulled out an intense 3-2 win in double overtime to keep their season alive. With the home crowd back in play for the Hurricanes tonight, the Islanders will have to play with even more effort and intensity than they did in game 4.

(D1) Vancouver Canucks vs (WC1) Nashville Predators

The Vancouver Canucks battle against the Nashville Predators tonight at 8:30 p.m. CT on TBS, which is the final NHL playoff game scheduled for tonight. The Canucks are leading the series 3-1 over the Predators, as they won both games in Nashville by one goal. By going 2-0 on the road, the Canucks have taken control of this series heading into game 5 in Vancouver tonight. The Predators will have to recoup their spirits ahead of tonight’s game, as they blew a 2-1 lead last game and fell to the Canucks in overtime. The Canucks will have the home crowd behind them tonight, as they will try to be the third #1 seed to advance to the next round. Compared to other playoff matchups, the Canucks and Predators have been locked in lower scoring battles. Neither team is averaging three goals per game this postseason, which puts both of them in the bottom half of that statistical category.
