How the state’s players did in the 2024 Senior Bowl

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix played only two offensive series in the Reese’s Senior Bowl on Saturday, but the former Pinson Valley High School star had a meaningful hand in the Nationals’ 16-7 victory over the Americans in the 75th annual all-star game at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile.

Nix tried to open with a bang as the Nationals ran a flea-flicker on their first snap, but his long throw to North Carolina wide receiver Devontez Walker was broken up. A 5-yard connection to Penn State tight end Theo Johnson wasn’t enough on third down.

The second possession produced the Nationals’ only touchdown of the game as Nix moved his team 55 yards on seven plays.

Nix went 3-of-3 passing on the series – a 7-yarder to Johnson, a 7-yarder to Central Florida wide receiver Javon Baker and a 2-yard touchdown toss to Minnesota tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford as the Nationals tied the score at 7-7 with 1:53 left in the first quarter.

Nix finished 4-of-5 passing for 21 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.

After producing the touchdown, Nix took a seat for the remainder of the game as Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman ran the Nationals’ offense.

The Nationals’ other quarterback, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., did not play on Saturday.

Between Pinson Valley and Oregon, Nix played for three seasons at Auburn.

In addition to Nix, 17 other all-stars who played at Alabama high schools and colleges were on the rosters for Saturday’s game:

· Missouri cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine (Spanish Fort High School) did not record any stats for the Americans.

· UCF wide receiver Javon Baker (who played at Alabama in the 2020 and 2021 seasons) had two receptions for 22 yards for the Nationals. Baker had a 7-yard reception from Oregon quarterback Bo Nix to the American 2-yard line to set up the Nationals’ first-quarter touchdown, and he had a 15-yard reception from Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman on a third-and-6 throw. The latter resulted in a first down, but Stanford kicker Joshua Karty missed a 32-yard field-goal attempt at the end of the second-quarter series.

· South Alabama quarterback Carter Bradley completed 1-of-6 passes for 6 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Bradley played the first two possessions of the second half for the Americans. His completion to TCU running back Emani Bailey picked up a first down, but his deep pass to open the final period was broken up by Washington State cornerback Chau Smith-Wade.

· Alabama defensive lineman Chris Braswell made one tackle for the Americans.

· Miami (Fla.) guard Javion Cohen (Central High School in Phenix City, who played at Alabama in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons) saw action in the Americans’ offensive line, mainly at left guard.

· Alabama defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe did not record any stats for the Americans.

· Auburn defensive lineman Marcus Harris (Park Crossing High School) made one tackle for the Americans, and it came behind the line of scrimmage. Harris and Ole Miss’ Cedric Johnson took down Troy running back Kimani Vidal for a 4-yard loss on the Nationals’ second snap of the game. Harris also nearly pulled down Sam Hartman for a third-quarter sack, but the Notre Dame QB was able to throw away the football at the last second.

· Oregon cornerback Khyree Jackson (who played at Alabama in the 2021 and 2022 seasons) did not record any stats for the Nationals.

· Auburn cornerback D.J. James (Spanish Fort High School) did not record any stats for the Americans.

· Ole Miss defensive end Cedric Johnson (Davidson) made one tackle for the Americans, and it came behind the line of scrimmage. Johnson and Auburn’s Marcus Harris took down Troy running back Kimani Vidal for a 4-yard loss on the Nationals’ second snap of the game.

· Georgia long snapper William Mote (Spain Park High School) handled the snaps on five punts, one field-goal attempt and one PAT for the Americans.

· Auburn cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett (Jackson High School) broke up two passes in the American secondary. Pritchett broke up a deep throw by Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman to UCF wide receiver Javon Baker in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Pritchett broke up another Hartman pass, this time to North Carolina wide receiver Devontez Walker on a third-and-5 throw. National kicker Joshua Karty missed a 32-yard field-goal attempt on the next snap.

· Alabama kicker Will Reichard (Hoover High School) kicked the extra point after the Americans’ touchdown in the first quarter. Reichard tried for a 57-yard field goal in the second quarter, but while his kick was long enough, the football hit the right upright and bounced away. Both of Reichard’s kickoffs resulted in touchbacks.

· Auburn safety Jaylin Simpson made one tackle for the American team. Simpson stopped Troy running back Kimani Vidal for no gain at the American 2-yard line, but the Nationals ended up scoring on the next play.

· Troy defensive end Javon Solomon made two tackles for the Nationals.

· Troy running back Kimani Vidal ran for 26 yards on six carries for the Nationals. Vidal had the big play on the Nationals’ lone touchdown drive. After starting the series with an 8-yard run, Vidal burst up the middle for 23 yards to the American 24-yard line on the next snap. Vidal had rushing attempts from the American 2- and 1-yard line later in the game, but he couldn’t add another score to his Sun Belt Conference tally against South Alabama at Hancock Whitney Stadium.

· Mississippi State linebacker Nathaniel Watson (Maplesville High School) led the Americans with seven tackles, tied with National linebacker Cedric Gray of North Carolina for the high mark in the game. Watson shared a tackle for loss and broke up a pass. Watson and Georgia safety Tykee Smith dropped Troy running back Kimani Vidal for a 1-yard loss on the first snap of the second half to start a string of three straight tackles by the MSU linebacker. Later in the third quarter, Watson broke up a pass intended for Michigan tight end A.J. Barner.
