How much will LSU pay Ole Miss in fine after field rush?

LSU pulled off an overtime victory in Baton Rouge Saturday, taking down Ole Miss in overtime, on the strength of a Garrett Nussmeier touchdown throw. Afterward, fans rushed the field at Tiger Stadium, an act that will lead to LSU being fined by the SEC.

The field rush was LSU’s second offense under the SEC’s current playing surface entry fine structure, which was put in place in 2023. That means a $250,000 fine is on the way.

First violations under the current structure run $100,000. The second costs $250,000 and any subsequent field or court stormings cost $500,000 each.

The fines are now paid directly to the visiting school. Under prior structures, they went to the SEC’s post-graduate scholarship fund.

LSU’s first violation under the current structure came in men’s basketball, when the Tigers beat Kentucky last season. The program’s last football field rush fine came in 2022, when it beat Alabama in dramatic fashion.

Overall, LSU will have paid out $955,000 in field rush fines since they were implemented in 2004. That puts the Tigers in first place among all programs in the league, in terms of most fines paid for rushing fields and courts.

Vanderbilt and Arkansas are tied in second place behind LSU, having paid out $730,000 each through the years. They each rushed their own fields last week, after beating Alabama and Tennessee respectively.
