How much rain could Alabama get today and tonight?
An approaching weather system will bring Alabama its next chance for rain starting later today, but no severe weather is expected.
Here is the severe weather outlook for today (Thursday). The areas in green could have thunderstorms, but no organized severe weather is anticipated:
And it won’t get especially cold after the rain departs, although temperatures are forecast to be a few degrees cooler Friday and Saturday.
The National Weather Service is forecasting increasing rain chances through the day today, with the bulk of the rain expected later tonight and into the overnight hours.
It won’t be a ton of rain. NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center thinks parts of north and central Alabama could get up to a half-inch of rain (with isolated areas possibly getting more) through Friday, with south Alabama getting a tenth of an inch or less (see that forecast at the top of this post).
It could also be breezy today for areas in north and central Alabama. The weather service offices in Huntsville and Birmingham said winds could be out of the south or southwest at 15-20 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph through the day.
The weather service in Mobile also said it will be breezy across south Alabama as well.
More rain is expected next week with the next major weather system. It could bring a chance of severe weather to Alabama next Wednesday.
