How much rain could Alabama get later this week?
It is looking like the work week could end on a soggy note.
The National Weather Service is forecasting several rounds of rain, especially on Friday and into the weekend, and it could add up to as much as 4 inches in parts of the state.
The weather service said a “conga line” of storm systems is expected to roll across the state from Friday into the weekend. It won’t rain constantly, but when it does it could be heavy at times.
A forecast from the weather service also has wide areas in Alabama getting 2-3 inches of rain through Sunday (see the forecast at the top of this post).
Forecasters will also be keeping an eye on trends for Friday, when there is the potential — but not a certainty — for a few strong storms. So far the Storm Prediction Center hasn’t included Alabama in a severe weather risk for Friday, or for any day this week.
The weather service said it will continue to keep an eye on trends and introduce a severe weather risk if needed.
NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center has included Alabama in a risk for flash flooding later this week. The forecast has much of Alabama in a Level 2 out of 4 (or slight) risk for flash flooding on Friday into Saturday:
The rainy weather is expected to clear out late in the weekend, and another shot of cold air will be possible by the first of next week.
