How much is Auburn football paying its nonconference opponents in 2024?

Auburn will pay over $4 million for its nonconference football games this season, according to contracts acquired by AL.com through a public records request.

However, no single game will cost Auburn more than its season opener against UMass in 2023, a game that Auburn paid $1.95 million for.

The most notable nonconference payout from last season came in Auburn’s loss to New Mexico State. The Aggies upset the Tigers 31-10 in Jordan-Hare Stadium, a game in which Auburn already agreed to pay New Mexico State $1.85 million, regardless of the result.

Alabama A&M

For Auburn’s season opener, the contract states that it will pay Alabama A&M a fixed sum of $525,000. Auburn will also provide 500 complimentary tickets and 250 band complimentary tickets, according to the contract.

The game was rescheduled twice after initially being scheduled for Nov. 21, 2020, and later rescheduled for Nov. 23, 2024, before the final date of Aug. 31, 2024, was agreed on.

Cal

Cal is the lone home-and-home game that Auburn will play in 2024. The first leg came at Cal in 2023.

For each game the two teams play in the two-game contract, the visiting team will receive a cash guarantee of $450,000 from the home team, according to the contract.

The contract states that the visiting team will receive 5,000 tickets for purchase and 350 complimentary tickets.

It also states that visiting cheerleaders, yell leaders and members of the band all in uniforms and the band with instruments shall be admitted to the game at no cost and be permitted to perform.

The series was initially agreed to be played during the 2019 and 2020 seasons and was rescheduled for the 2020 and 2021 seasons before the final agreement was reached to play the games in the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Auburn won the first game of the home-and-home 14-10 last season.

New Mexico

The biggest payout Auburn will owe for a nonconference game this season is $1.9 million for its Sept. 14 matchup with New Mexico, according to the contract.

New Mexico will also be provided with 500 complimentary tickets, along with the option to purchase another 2,000 tickets on consignment–meaning tickets that Auburn does not sell.

The contract also states that the New Mexico marching band will be provided complimentary tickets up to 419 seats. Unclaimed marching band tickets cannot be used to supplement New Mexico’s complimentary ticket allotment, according to the contract.

Louisiana-Monroe

The second-highest payout Auburn will owe for a game this season is against Louisiana-Monroe.

The contract states that Auburn will play Louisiana-Monroe $1.85 million for the game on Nov. 16. Similar to the game against New Mexico, Louisiana-Monroe will be provided with 500 complimentary tickets along with the option to purchase up to 2,000 tickets on consignment.

The Louisiana-Monroe band will be provided complimentary tickets up to 419 seats and cheerleaders and mascots in uniform will be admitted free of charge, according to the contract.

Like the New Mexico game, the contract states that unclaimed marching band tickets cannot be used to supplement Louisiana Monroe’s complimentary ticket allotment.
