How fast is Alabama 2025 WR commit Ryan Williams?
How fast is Alabama commit and reigning Mr. Football winner Ryan Williams?
The Saraland sophomore won the 100-meter dash at the Jim Tate Relays in Mobile last week with a time of 10.68 seconds, the fastest time in the state so far during the outdoor season.
Williams also won the 300-meter dash with a time of 34.80 seconds and won the high jump with a leap of 6-feet, 8 inches. His high jump ties for the best jump in the outdoor season so far.
In January, Williams – a wide receiver – became the first sophomore in Alabama history to win Mr. Football, the top high school award in the state given out by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Williams, a quarterback just two years ago, accounted for 42 touchdowns in 2022 in helping Saraland to a 14-1 record and the school’s first state football championship. He scored four first-half touchdowns in the Class 6A championship game against Mountain Brook.
“We’ve had guys who were fast, guys who played with great body control, who had great hands – Ryan is a combination of all of those things,” Saraland head coach Jeff Kelly said at the banquet. “He is great off the line of scrimmage. People don’t have an easy time pressing him. He is able to separate on balls down the field. He makes the contested catch. I think what really sets him apart is the competitive nature that he rolls in with every day.”
In the same meet in Mobile over the weekend, Foley junior Perry Thompson finished second in the 100-meter dash in 11.17 seconds. He is also a wide receiver who is committed to Alabama.
Williams is currently the No. 5 player in the state for the Class of 2025, according to the 247 composite rankings. The 6-foot-3 Thompson is No. 2 in the Class of 2024. In 2022, he caught 87 passes for 1,059 yards and 9 TDs for the Region 1 champions. He also had a pair of interceptions on defense.
