How did Birmingham, Alabama stocks close the week?

Community Health Systems was at the top of a long list of gainers Friday in our Birmingham and Alabama Stock Report.

The Franklin, Tennessee-based company rose 4%. It has six locations in Alabama: Birmingham, Dothan, Enterprise, Foley, Gadsden and Huntsville.

General Electric closed at a 52-week high of $109.85 after rising 2% on Friday.

Encompass Health Corp., the nation’s largest system of rehabilitation hospitals, increased 1.3% to close pennies shy of a 52-week high at $67.71 a share. Headquartered in Birmingham, it has seven hospitals across Alabama: Huntsville, Gadsden, Birmingham, Pelham, Montgomery, Phenix City and Dothan.

Overall, Wall Street blazed to another rally Friday to close a winning week, month and first half of the year after reports suggested pressure on inflation may be easing.

The S&P 500 climbed 1.2% to reach its highest level since April 2022. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 285 points, or 0.8%, and the Nasdaq composite jumped 1.4%.
