How cold was it where you live this morning? Warmer weather ahead for Alabama

Friday proved to be another frigid morning across Alabama, with most locations reporting temperatures in the teens and 20s.

It was record-setting cold in one area: The National Weather Service in Birmingham said Birmingham hit 17 degrees on Friday morning, breaking the low-temperature record of 18 degrees set in 1959 and 1963.

The National Weather Service expects temperatures over the weekend to gradually get warmer, and nearly all of Alabama will be back into the 60s by Monday.

But winter was still in full force on Friday morning. Some of the coldest temperatures were 13 degrees in Haleyville and 15 degrees in Huntsville.

Highs today will be a few degrees warmer than on Thursday, when many locations didn’t get out of the 30s.

Highs today will be in the upper 30s and low 40s in north Alabama, the mid- to upper 40s in central Alabama and the low 50s in south Alabama (see today’s forecast at the top of this post).

Tonight will be very cold again, but not as cold as this morning. Here are tonight’s expected low temperatures:

Lows tonight will fall into the low 20s in north Alabama. Central Alabama lows will range from the mid- to upper 20s. South Alabama temperatures will be in the upper 20s to low 30s.

Saturday and Sunday high temperatures are expected to increase by a few degrees each day, with highs mostly in the 50s and 60s.

Temperatures are expected to not be as frigid going forward, and near- average conditions are expected through the end of the month.
