How Alabama football honored Nick Saban at halftime of USF game

The Million Dollar Band finished its halftime show, then AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” started to play.

The video boards showed the team tunnel, with one man walking through.

Nick Saban.

The retired legendary coach entered onto the field that now owns his namesake. Cheers from the thousands of Alabama fans sitting in the stadium greeted Saban at the goal post. So, too, did his wife, Terry Saban.

Miss Terry and the coach then walked with each other to midfield where radio announcer Chris Stewart, athletics director Greg Byrne and others waited.

Then parts of their speeches from pregame at the Walk of Champions played. Stewart spoke first. “The home of the two greatest coaches in the history of college football,” Stewart said.

Then Stewart briefly introduced Saban, a man who truly needed no introduction.

Saban gave his thanks to various people and groups, including late athletics director Mal Moore who hired him and the fans.

Saban, Saban, Saban chants broke out once he finished speaking.

Then UA lit up the big Crimson letters on the West and East sides of the stadium that read “Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.”
