Horse reportedly collapses during Mobile Mardi Gras parade sparking concern
A horse reportedly collapsed while being ridden during the annual Condé Cavaliers’ Mardi Gras parade on Friday in Mobile causing concern for spectators.
According to witness Niki Box, the incident happened on the Government and Jackson intersection of the parade route.
Box went on to explain what she saw in a public Facebook post.
“Tonight while enjoying the parade a horse came by that seemed to be very off and almost like it was struggling to walk. (Head very low, slow staggered steps) Turn to look at the next float and heard a gasp in the crowd turn back the horse has collapsed in the middle of the road with the rider on,” Box writes.
“The horse is still on the ground not even making an effort to get up on its own. … The horse eventually jumps up and they keep on.”
A video posted in the comments of the Facebook post shows the horse on the ground with a man seated in the saddle. A second man then appears to kick the horse in an effort to get it to stand up.
In this short clip, the horse proceeds to stand and continue walking.
Box’s original Facebook post addressing the incident has since received over 1,000 comments while others continue to leave comments on the Condé Cavaliers Facebook page asking for answers and expressing their anger.
AL.com reached out to the Condé Cavaliers for a comment Saturday morning but have not since heard back.
