Hoover substitute teacher arrested on child porn charges

A Hoover man was arrested last week on child pornography charges, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced Wednesday.

Russell John Sweeney, 48, of Hoover, was arrested on two counts of possession of child pornography by special agents from the attorney general’s office’s with help from Hoover police and the University of Alabama Police’s Regional Evidence and Analysis and Cyber Intelligence Team, Marshall said.

Sweeney is a substitute teacher with Hoover City Schools, the district told WBRC.

A Hoover City Schools spokeswoman could not immediately be reached to confirm Sweeney’s employment.

Sweeney was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on $60,000 bond.

If convicted, he faces up to one year and one day to 10 years in prison on each count.
