Hoover sophomore named to USA 15U baseball team
Hoover High’s Will Adams, a left-handed pitcher and infielder, has been named to the 2023 15U USA National Team.
The announcement followed training camp last week at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
Adams, already an Alabama commit as a rising sophomore, was the only high school player from Alabama selected to the 20-man roster. Hoover coach Adam Moseley said Adams will hit and pitch for the team.
“He was one of the Bucs’ best pitchers as a freshman,” Moseley said. “He’s left-handed and very advanced for his age. He threw a one-hitter in his first varsity start. He has been playing a high-level of travel baseball for a while.”
Moseley said Adams was in the “top one percent” of players he’s been able to coach in his career.
“He’s a special talent,” he said. “He also is one of our hardest workers. His work ethic is off the chart.”
Adams was 5-1 as a freshman for Hoover with a 1.79 ERA. He struck out 59 batters in 35 innings and had three shutouts.
The 15U team will train in Miami on Sept. 10-11 before making the trip to Santo Domingo for an international competition with the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico on Sept. 13-18.
Oxford’s Carter Johnson is on the 18U Training Camp roster. That group will hold camp from Aug. 21-25 at JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. The final 20-man roster is set to be released Aug. 25 and will compete in the U-18 Baseball World Cup in Taichung and Taipei, Taiwan, Sept. 1-10.
Johnson, who helped the Yellow Jackets to the Class 6A state title this spring, is one of 40 players on the training camp roster.
Headland outfielder Wade Shelley competed in the 16U/17U developmental program last month. That age group does not play an international competition.
