Hoover schools superintendent announces retirement
Hoover City Schools Superintendent Dee Fowler announced his retirement during the Board of Education’s monthly meeting Tuesday.
Fowler, who has led the district since 2021, said his retirement will be effective Oct. 1.
He said he and his wife built a house in Fairhope and were looking forward to spending time with their family there, including their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, the Hoover Sun reported.
“It’s time we settle down,” Fowler said, according to the Sun.
Fowler was previously deputy state superintendent and chief of staff to the state superintendent as well as superintendent for Madison City Schools.
In a vote Tuesday night, the board voted to publicly post the vacancy of the superintendent position on Wednesday and will be accepting applications for the role through Aug. 14.
The board’s attorneys, the Birmingham law firm Bishop Colvin, will lead the search for Hoover’s next superintendent.
