There is still about 9,500 square feet of remaining space available at a medical plaza taking shape along U.S. 280 near Grandview Medical Center.

Improvements to the exterior of the development, on Cahaba Park Circle, are complete after about a year of work, while the interior is open to renovation for tenants. Urgent Care for Children, Healtheon, American Health Research Institute and Luna Sleep Center are located there.

A pharmacy is also in the works. The plaza has spaces for single physician or group practices.

Long-time Birmingham practitioner Dr. Amrik Walia, who is developing the property, said people “should be able to fulfill their health and wellness needs in a more positive space.”

“We are developing a one-stop shop for different health modalities, such as cardiology, diabetes care, a sleep clinic and more,” Walia said.

Walia helped UAB start the Office for the Advancement of Developing Industries in 1988, which eventually became Innovation Depot. He also founded American Health Research Institute, Spa Moksha and Urgent Care for Children.

Walia said he hopes to attract family-focused primary care, ENT, ophthalmology, dentistry, urology or other specialties.

“I believe navigating health and wellness care should be easier,” he said. “By bringing several practitioner offices to the heart of Highway 280, it will be so easy for people to just park outside the clinic they need to visit, rather than figuring out and walking through a maze of parking decks and hallways at a hospital.”
