Hoover medical device company announces $2.3 million expansion

Hoover medical and occupational safety equipment manufacturer OHD is planning a $2.3 million expansion in Meadow Brook Corporate Park.

A manufacturer and provider of medical and occupational safety equipment, including respirator testing devices, OHD is currently located at 2687 John Hawkins Parkway, with 36 full-time employees, according to the company.

The company announced today it has purchased, and will renovate, an existing building at 2200 Resource Drive. The expansion is expected to create 14 new sales jobs. No timetable for the project has been announced.

“OHD continues to grow rapidly around the world, developing and launching new technologies for our global customers, and we are excited to expand our operations in Hoover and Meadow Brook Corporate Park,” OHD President Luke Allen said. “We believe in great workplaces and culture for our team and see the vision of Hoover’s economic development efforts in the Meadow Brook area.”

On Monday, the Hoover City Council approved $100, 911 in abatements of non-educational portions of city, county, and state sales use and property taxes. The total estimated benefit to Hoover City Schools through property taxes is $105,478 over 10 years, which includes $25,330 in net new revenue, according to the city.

“I am very pleased that OHD has made the decision to stay and grow in Hoover,” Mayor Frank Brocato said. “This investment not only strengthens our innovation ecosystem along the Highway 280 Corridor, but also positions Hoover as a leader in the medical device industry.”
